Below are instructions for how to change/update your robots.txt file. Please know that before you begin you will need to have downloaded the third party program FileZilla onto your computer. You can find instructions for setting up FileZilla at the link below:
https://help.keychainserver.net/stores/pages#File_Files
As previously indicated, we do not advise how you should configure the robots.txt file, or what resources you should allow or disallow, but the steps below will instruct you how to do so based on the suggestion of your SEO company.
First, make sure that you are successfully connected to the server through FileZilla. The following information is the criteria needed to connect:
Host: ftp.storesonlinepro.com
Port: 990
Server Type: FTPS--FTP over implicit TLS/SSL
Logon Type: Normal
User: Account/License number
Password: Keychain login password
> After entering this information click Connect
Changing the .txt file:
> First, copy and paste your current TXT file into an empty Notepad document. Your current TXT file can be found at yourdomainname.com/robots.txt.
> Make the adjustments to the Notepad file based on the recommendations from your SEO company. You can also follow this link for Google's recommendations for TXT files: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/156449?hl=en
> When you are done making changes save the Notepad document to your computer as: robots.txt
> Open FileZilla and connect to the server
> In the bottom left box, navigate your computer files to find the saved robots.txt file
> Click and drag the file from the bottom left box to the bottom right box *making sure not to drop the file in a folder. The file must be in the root directory and not in a specific folder.
> The message at the bottom of the FileZilla window should indicate that the transfer of files has been successful.
> These changes may take a few minutes to show and you may need to reconnect to the server to check that the robots.txt file was successfully moved to the root directory.
> You can also check you new robots.txt file by visiting the live site again at yourdomainname.com/robots.txt.
> Google will need to re-scan your site after making the change.
